Nostalgia and Heritage

Archives and fieldwork can transform the intangible into an exhibit.

Inheritance and cultural heritage are illustrated by one place affected by war, agriculture, and a community's desire for tourism. Heritage is essential to the identity of place and person, revealing the importance of heritage preservation because it enriches humanity.

Inherited
Nostalgia struck every time Amy opened the old box left to her.
Her Grandfather’s uniform was still folded neatly around a cigar box full of mementoes and memories. The memories belong to someone no longer here to tell his story. Like so many other World War II veterans, it never came up. An archive of sorts, this box helps tell part of a larger story.

The life of Steve Czajka, affectionately referred to as Beepee by Amy, was a full one. He shared a lot of love and memories with his family. Like so many others, war stories were omitted as they focused on careers and family.

The exhibit starts, in honor of his memory.
