Stornara, Italy, living among the olive trees. Soldiers lived in "pyramidal" tents. Steve, like everyone else, made the best of it.

Maps help us get our bearings. They tell us about a place and it’s relation to other places. It also can provide us with a our relation to it.
Cerignola Italy
Cerignola Italy is just around the corner. For a long time, soldiers would have to go there twice a week for showers. There was a theater and a church that soldiers would visit.
Unit Archival Records
Multiple people wrote the unit's records. The most prolific was Captain Alfred Levine, the S-2 officer or intelligence officer. He and others paint a picture of the area with their typewriters.
Headquarters Area
The Frangipani mansion was commandeered. The area around it was used for support services and the control tower.
1945 to 2025
Legacy is a component of heritage. Identifying with a person, place, or thing is part of who we are. So long as we have memories, Amy's Grandfather's life still has great meaning to us. We now know that he lived among the olive trees and honored the locals' wishes. By respecting their culture, he is still teaching us a valuable lesson. Even in the midst of war, respect and decency was not a casualty. The olive grove's story began long before World War II and survives today.
The hands that tended to the trees long ago and today share their story and heritage with us.
